The Artist’s Way 12 week Course for the New Year.
Happy New Year Everyone. I hope you had exactly the kind of break over Christmas and New Year that you were looking for.
Clean, Bright, Fresh New Year Wishes to you all.
I first read the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron a couple of years ago now and continue to be greatly inspired and touched by the exercises and wisdom there in. Julia Cameron is one of my all time heroes for writing this book. Her writing is funny, real and super insightful.
It is essentially a twelve week course in recovering or discovering your own creativity and is great for anyone who has ever longed to be able to draw or paint or write or compose music, or for those who maybe in the midsts of a creative career but may need a little perk up/ grounding/ digging out of a creative rut!
I know that for many people, including myself the New Year can be a time for reflecting on what we want more or less of in our lives and to be more creative is a common New Year’s Resolution. For that reason I have decided to guide and participate in an Artist’s Way Group this New Year 2017 for 12 weeks so that we can do the course together and support each other along the way. I will be roughly leading/organising the group but will be doing so according to these guidelines so it will be non hierarchical and a collective process. I will be taking part as well. It is free to take part though there are a few associated costs such as buying the book and maybe the cost of a simple meal out each week when the group meets. I am not exactly sure where this will be yet, (please feel free to send me your suggestions), as the final location depends on numbers but it will be central London and not to expensive and hopefully have a private room that we can take over for 2/3 hours each week every Tuesday evening.
Everyone who want to take part will need to buy a copy of the book for themselves, see here to buy it on Amazon. There is also a workbook that organises the exercises for you and can be helpful in terms of keeping everything in one place but is not essential.
The last time I did the course I found that it did take me quite a bit of time each week to get the exercises done. If you are super busy it might be tough for you to get it all done but if you are committed to it and organised and prepared to get up half an hour earlier each day during the week and have some time on the weekends then you should be able to do all that you need to do in order take part and get the most out of it.
I am planning for the group to meet for the first time on Tuesday the 24th of January at 7pm and expect that we will be together till around 9.30pm. By this date you should have bought your book(s), and a notebook and pen and have them with you ready to start the first week of exercises with the group. We will then meet every Tuesday evening for the next 11 weeks.
I will confirm the location nearer the time once I have an idea of numbers but will try to keep it to zone one.
If you would like to be involved please email me on info@sketchout.net and let me know and I will add you to the list to keep you in the loop.
