Drawing Competition for September – Orange and Bowl in Charcoal and Pastel.
Hi Guys
I hoped you enjoyed drawing cups at home last month. This month I am introducing a bit of Colour to these competitions.
Watch the video at the bottom of the page to see how to go about drawing an orange and a bowl in charcoal and pastel. I hope you like it. I have to say that this videos is one of my favourites from all the videos I made with WHSmith.
I learnt this technique when working at an art studio for kids on the River in Chelsea and have used it ever since. The charcoal is great because you can rub it out with your fingers and adding colour on top with pastel works really well. You get lovely colour combinations with the bright pastels on the grey background.
Please post photos of your versions to the Sketchout Facebook page ( or email them to me if you don’t have Facebook) no later than 10.00am on Friday the 30th of September.
I will announce the winner on Monday the 3rd of October.
As usual my favourite of the entries will win a Sketchout Drawing workshop of their choice.
There is no age restriction for the competition but if the winner is under 11 years old they will need to be accompanied by an adult all day on the day of taking their free workshop.
Happy Drawing
Love Rosa
xx
My Top tips for Getting the best results.
- Draw big. Give yourself space.
- Don’t blend too much with the pastel, it’s nice to have some texture. Don’t feel you have to make everything look super smooth.
- Photograph your work as clearly as you can in good light and from straight on.
- Have fun with it, its only a drawing 🙂
